Picture a meadow ringed with bright pavilions, with pennons flying overhead. Noble lords and ladies watch the center of the meadow, where knights in armor strive with sword and shield. Minstrels play lutes and harps, singing songs of love or battle. In the shadows of one tent, a King and Queen confer soberly with richly-dressed advisors. A historical romance? No, this is the Society for Creative Anachronism. The SCA is an international non-profit educational organization, dedicated to the preser …

Sonnets To Orpheus I, 3 by R. M. Rilke translated by H. Landman A god can do it. How do you expect a man to squeeze on through the lyre and follow? His mind is torn. Where heartways intersect, you won't find any temple to Apollo. True singing, as you teach it, isn't wanting, not wooing anything that can be won; no, Singing's Being. For the god, not daunting. But when are we? And when will he then turn into our being all the Earth and Stars? It isn't that you love, child, even i …
One of the most appealing things about drum circles is that they are different every time. Much depends on who comes, and what instruments we use. Participants are welcome to bring their own drums, or use any of mine. My aim as a facilitator is to encourage conversational rhythm and sound. Sometimes we learn specific rhythms together, and then improvise. Other times we just play freely. Often we choose instruments that blend to create unique ensemble sounds. Even though I always have a …

This is group was started so I could spread my love for dancing and music. Creatively dancing in a non judgmental atmosphere with others of like minds who are having the same feelings of freedom and expression is intensely energetic. That feeling of being part of a group becoming one with each other through harmonic resonance and inner feelings of acceptance, creativity and belonging is hard to beat. I love listening to music, singing along and dancing to music and I do it as frequently as possi …

I can’t get up in front of a group and do that!” In Nigeria they say, “If you can talk, you can sing.” Karaoke is not about being Sinatra, Streisand, Springsteen, or Stefani. Ka …
